Anthony Pieters (b. 1989, Gold Coast) is a self-taught artist based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. His abstract landscapes are built through a meticulous and meditative process: layers of calcite grit and gypsum blanket his canvases, then sculpted and carved away to reveal abstracted natural landmarks and organic forms;  winding riverbanks and imposing mountains, undulating sand dunes and encroaching walls of pumice and coral. Gentle gradients of acrylic coat the tablet-like reliefs, further accentuating the ridges and hollows carved into each surface, so that light and perspective become mediums in their own right, subtly transforming the work as the viewer's perspective and the room's light shift around it. The results draw on the patterns of water, sand and stone found across Pieter’s surroundings of the Gold Coast's coastline and hinterland, an ode to nature’s beauty, rendered with a quiet sense of order and restraint that rewards close viewing as much as distance.

Alongside his landscapes, Pieters's work also extends into the figurative, painting highly detailed portraits and forms which he then submerges in sculptural folds and layers of acrylic. These pieces carry a stillness, a sense of endurance and quiet strength; faith and resolve present as a steadying undercurrent throughout his body of work.

Pieters is also known for a second, public facing practice as a live performance artist, creating expressive drawings in front of audiences across the Gold Coast and Brisbane; work shaped by music, movement and the immediacy of a crowd, in deliberate contrast to the private, considerepace d of his studio pieces.

Pieters' work has been shown at The Other Art Fair and featured in a curated Saatchi Art collection, and he received the Emerging Designer Award from Belle Magazine and Fanuli Furniture (2021). His work has also been commissioned for a number of luxury hospitality projects, including Capella Sydney and Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort in Japan, and selected for placement on the 2024 season of The Block Australia.
