Augustus Geddes (b. 1990, Melbourne) is a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist. Coming from a family of artists, Geddes began painting from a young age, and his body of work stretches across painting, collage and sculpture. Drawing from both traditional landscapes, as well as abstracted impressionism, expressionism and cubism, Geddes’ works serve as a window into his environment. What can appear as intense and chaotic explosions of ambiguous shapes and paint splatters gradually reveal familiar landscapes and scenes; order found amongst discord, a rippling mirror held up to the natural spaces from which he draws upon.

Geddes' practice explores abstraction as a means of challenging perception and subjective interpretation. Through layered compositions and material experimentation, his work invites the viewer into ambiguity, allowing meaning to emerge through individual experience rather than a fixed narrative. Across mediums, his practice continues to investigate the relationship between form, texture and perception, balancing intuitive expression with conceptual depth.

Geddes has exhibited across Melbourne, where he has primarily been represented, his work sits in private collections across Australia, Asia and New York, and has collaborated with Melbourne fashion label Hew Clothing. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from RMIT University in 2013, and is a recipient of the Tolarno Hotel Prize (2013)
