Tony Green (b. 1988, London, England) is a London and Paris-trained illustrator and painter whose work moves fluidly between fine art and fashion. Working across acrylics, ink, watercolours, and soft and oil pastels, Green builds his compositions from spontaneous, multicoloured base layers, onto which loose, gestural figurative marks are added — a process he deliberately keeps unplanned. "I like to be spontaneous with colour," he explains, "sometimes I don't look at what colours I'm picking up... I find it more interesting to see what happens without too much planning." The results are bold, youthful, luminous, and unmistakably his own: work he describes as carrying "loose lines and spontaneous marks," with "always a romantic element."

Green's work is driven by an ongoing interest in the collision of historical and the present-day aesthetics. Drawing on travel, fashion, and "unusual colour combinations," he folds historical grandeur and playful romance, from the streets of Rome to the court of Versailles, into contemporary abstract and figurative forms. "I love historical references combined with current references," he says. "I think that makes something feel modern in itself." He treats stylistic variation itself as part of the practice, favouring unpredictability over a single fixed aesthetic: "I like to vary in styles as I think it is more interesting not only for me, but for onlookers... I find the most inspiring artists are unpredictable."

Green grew up in Cheshire, England, shaped early on by music, fairy tales, and the extroverted characters and costumes of the theatre. He graduated from Central Saint Martins, London, in 2010, going on to work in Paris for Sonia Rykiel, creating illustrations, collection designs, prints, and research concepts for the fashion house. Though his early career was rooted in fashion design, Green found himself drawn increasingly toward drawing and illustration, prompting a shift toward an independent art practice. He now works from his studio in Warrington, England.

Since establishing his independent practice, Green has collaborated with a wide range of international brands and designers, including Free People, Nathan Jenden for Diane von Furstenberg (New York), and Selfridges. More recent collaborations include L'Oréal and Selfridges, featuring pieces by Jacquemus, Prada, and Adidas, alongside Smythson of Bond Street, Tinker & Tallulah, and luxury yacht manufacturer Heesen. Green has also worked live in front of audiences, including session sketching alongside a Pulp Riot × Toni&Guy photoshoot. His illustrations have appeared in The World of Interiors, British Vogue, London Life, and Creative Head, and his work has been exhibited and sold through House of Hackney, London. He regularly holds live illustration sessions and guest-mentors at IFM Paris, a leading fashion university.

In September 2021, Green presented a series of large-scale fashion illustrations at London Fashion Week, shown alongside the Emacbean swim collection in a presentation curated by Claire Payne and Andrew Ibi for F Word magazine. His larger bodies of work include the Rainbow Rodeo series of large-scale abstract paintings, and a series of swan paintings drawing on the imagery of Swan Lake. In 2025, Green presented his solo exhibition Reverie in Paris's Le Marais district, running from its opening on 16 April through to 4 May. He has since collaborated with Lanvin Paris and designer Peter Copping on bespoke artwork for the label's Spring/Summer 2026 collection, and presented a further solo exhibition, Blue Monday, at Amie Wine Studio, London, in 2026.
